The trees in Sequoia National are HUGE! Sequoias are the biggest trees in the world! And they are beautiful too
they set the forests on fire on purpose here because the heat helps the sequoia combs to open and plant new trees. Sequoia bark is fire resistant but the fires clear the forest floor for new plant growth. We saw the largest tree in the world by volume – the General Sherman Tree. The Sherman Tree’s top is dead, so the tree’s trunk will not grow any taller. It’s volume increases each year and the trunk grows wider This slab from the stump of a giant sequoia tells a story of fire survival. The annual growth rings show that the tree lived about 2,210 years! It also shows through different marks in the rings that it lived through at least 80 fires! People lived in some of these trees. This is Tharp’s log. Now this is a log cabin! 😂 you can venture inside and see some of the old stuff from when it was lived in. These trees are so big that instead of moving this giant they cut out part of it to make a tunnel to drive through! Chimney tree was an old hallowed out sequoia and it was gorgeous! After our walk through the giant trees we hiked to Tokopah falls. This hike was so peaceful. The entire time we walked by the beautiful rushing riverWe hiked to the top of Little Baldy! This had some amazing views of the park from above the clouds! We had a close encounter with 2 mule deer bucks on the way down the mountain! Kenna almost got in a fight with him!😂Oh nooo! She lost her shoe now what?!?We hiked to the top of Moro rock! It’s a short hike straight up a rock to a beautiful view of the park. Thank goodness we saw this sign in the bathroom! 😂now we know exactly what to do should we come across a bear…It didn’t work! They did not read the sign apparently because they didn’t understand… And they were NOT friends😬one small brown bear and a larger black bear! The black one ran towards us!
After our daily adventures we came home to our sweet farm. we loved this house! They had sheep, a mini horse, alpacas, cats, dogs, kittens, puppies, chickens, ducks, peacocks, geese, chicks, goats, lambs, parrots, parakeets, and other kinds of little birds! And it’s a working orange grove so we enjoyed some fresh oranges each day right off the trees and some homemade orange juice. This was the BEST orange juice we’ve ever tasted!
It did get a lil noisy on the farm but we loved it! Pickin fresh oranges for the road! We enjoyed the fire outside and roasted some s’mores 😋We spent an evening out in downtown Exeter and accepted the challenge of the the hidden image scavenger hunt on the murals through out town. This town is so cute 💕
